Holly and Alan Follow the Sun

Sometime this summer we'll be moving to Virginia Beach.  For those of you don't know where that is, Virginia Beach is located in the state of "Virginia."  I know it's hard to believe that we're leaving all this beautiful 40 degree late May weather behind but we just have to go.  It will be difficult at first to acclimate to all the sun, warmth, and gentle lapping waves of the ocean, but I'm sure we'll get used to it eventually.

In the map below, you can see that we will be living in the South-East corner of the state.  Somewhere in the vicinity of Hampton Roads, Newport News, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach.  Just above the border of North Carolina on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

Some of you are saying to yourselves at this point; "Just shut up Alan, I know where Virginia Beach is.  And that map was just insulting."  I'm sorry for the assumption of geographic ignorance but I just wanted it to be perfectly clear where we will be.  :)

Holly and I have talked about moving there for many years and the situation is now right to make it happen.  A huge balloon payment is about to come due on our house and my parents, who own the house,  want to get rid of it.

Our life in Lansing has reached stagnation as well and I really don't want to spend my entire time in the world as a resident of Michigan.  Part of the reason that we're still here is that a couple years ago I found my dream job, and it's been hard for me to consider leaving it.  Also MSU keeps giving Holly classes to teach each semester.

I promised myself about 7 years ago that I would move to Virginia Beach and spend my 30's learning how to surf.  I'm now 2 years behind schedule and the aches and pains of age are creeping up on me.  This is probably the last time in my life that I'll be able to take up a physically demanding hobby.  I'm not saying old people, or people in their 30's, should throw in the towel.  I'm just incredibly lazy.

Finally, I'm sick of the weather here in Michigan.  I know I should be used to it by now but actually I just hate it more and more every winter and it has now reached it's apex.  It's May 20th.  Two nights ago I had to scrape ice off my car windows and today it snowed.

Last Monday, CNN reported the weather in Virginia Beach was 86 degrees and sunny.

Good bye Michigan.
